The painting depicts a repentant Mary Magdalene in a bright white and red dress with a blue cloak with typical attributes – a skull, symbolizing the transience of physical beauty, and a book, pointing to the contemplative life of the penitent. Her hair gently falls over her shoulder. The hand gesture is inspired by Italian school of painting. The same painting of larger size is in the collection of the National Gallery in Prague since 1949; additional copies are in the collections of the Museum in Olomouc and the Archdiocesan Gallery in Litomerice, both in the Czech Republic.
