Jacopo Moranzone was a member of an important Venetian family of painters and wood carvers.
The enthroned Madonna presented here has a richly draped robe and bright polychromy. Her hands are held in a gesture of prayer, while the young Jesus – here depicted in a relatively uncommon position with crossed hands – sleeps in her lap. The statue was most likely part of a larger polyptych.
