Italian School (16th century)

On this tympanum is the representation of the dead body of Christ, protruding three-dimensionally from a flat stone background. His torso is fully executed and appears solid and muscular. The head is resting lightly on his right shoulder, his eyes closed. He is supported on both sides by flying angels. This limestone torso is very finely executed and was probably made in Venice.
