Oil on oak panel.
This pair of portraits depicts a man and a woman with expressive physiognomy. Dressed in black with matching patterns in their furs, they sit in front of black pleated drapes. On the wall behind them, we see their respective family crests. These portraits are in the typical compositional style of Maarten van Heemskerck and are comparable to his works from around 1540 to 1545 – for example, his portraits of Andries Willemzs van Sonnevelt and Wilhelmina Palinc.
