This finely worked wooden relief comes from southern Germany and shows the adoration of the angels of the newborn Jesus Christ. The Virgin Mary occupies a large part of the scene, with her extensive and finely chiseled draperies. Her hands are clasped in a prayer gesture, and her long hair flows airily behind her. She gazes with kind eyes at the newborn, who lies naked on the floor on her robe. Jesus is surrounded by six angels with large wings, who have come to worship him. Outlines of the stable at Bethlehem are visible in the background.
